Travel information offers a great opportunity to build a positive, productive and profitable retirement job.

Like to travel? Have interesting stories and advice to offer other travelers

This chapter offers three bangs for the buck.
First, I will introduce you to some interesting people I interviewed who have built a productive retirement job with their travel website. Each is offering a creative and profitable undertaking to carry them into retirement.

Secondly, use these examples as “idea starters” for travel subjects you might like to build on for your retirement job travel website. What about your hometown or region or favorite holiday destination?

Third, these travel websites offer a library of useful information to help travelers pick their destinations and plan their trips. As noted in previous chapters on how to sell your knowledge to create a positive, productive and profitable retirement job, when you view these sites, don't think only of a travel website but also Travel CD/DVD’s, and Ebooks as possible productive and profitable opportunities.

Here is a perfect example of building a travel website about your home region – it’s also an example of a lesson many of us learned the hard way – do your research before you forward the money.

Travel websites - Arizona Debi Clemmons, loves her home community of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, (they moved London Bridge there) and obviously knows the area like the back of her hand – the perfect combination for a travel website.

However, like many of us newbie's to ECommerce, Debi admits to charging in without doing her homework and signed on with a web hosting outfit that promised much but delivered little.
Thousands of dollars later, Debi had to enlist the help of the county Sheriff and the District Attorney's office.

Angry about what happened, Debi now took the time to do extensive research which led her to Site Build It a visit that produced three huge binders full of free ECommerce information.

Taking the time to study and compare, Debi signed on with SBI just before Christmas of ’05 and, using the SBI step-by-step roadmap, introduced it to the web in February of this year along with a data base companion site.

Two additional notes –

  • In September of ’05, Debi suffered the loss of her daughter Jenai Erin and says that the creative challenge of building her travel website helped her get through each day – “I still have my moments but I honestly believe I couldn't have made it this far without working on my new site.” - finditinlakehavasu.com is dedicated to Jenai Erin.

  • Debi is currently in negotiations with a company who wants to buy her web business and expand it to include over 100 cities.

Debi recommends Site Build It - “SiteBuildIt - SiteSell has all the tools and resources you will ever need to accomplish your goals. And, the ROI (return on investment) is phenomenal.”

home based business - travel Paris Now we’re off to Paris to meet Daniel Freeman – a 53 year old semi-retired minister and English teacher who lives seasonally in Paris. Daniel is a tour guide during his time in Paris and last fall he was looking into ways to add extra income into his retirement fund. He was researching ways to build on his knowledge of Paris when he came across SBI and after studying the various books and manuals - “….. became convinced that the CTPM process had legs and would work to build a solid business.”

Like me, Daniel was so-so with a computer but found the website building greatly simplified with SBI handling all the techie stuff. As a result he had more time to build his valuable content.Take a look at the result. Daniel has a professional looking site offering information, like all "valuable content" travel websites, saves a visitor to Paris precious time and a great deal of money.

One more important note; Daniel admits a travel website is not easy – it take work and dedication but adds;

“What is most enjoyable is that we are spending time doing something that we are passionate about. That is the real key to any successful venture. Making money is a primary goal, but we are being paid everyday in other ways too. I get to go out into Paris and look at museums, monument, parks and street life and write about it.”

SIDEBAR: Daniel mentioned the "CTPM process" - here's a brief explanation.

Home based business - travel - New England Having worked at the CBS affiliate in Boston years ago, New England is one of my favorite touring regions and obviously, it’s the same for Cliff Calderwood, who is based in Boston.

Twenty-four years of touring New England plus many hours of intensive research have gone into Cliff’s retirement job. His travel website offers a great deal of information you can't find in your typical guidebook.

Unlike many of us who are using the internet to create of productive and profitable retirement job, Cliff has 35 years computer experience but still opt to use SBI Because –

“SBI is a good tool to get the technical stuff out of the way so you can concentrate on building quality content.”

Cliff also offer this important piece of advise -

”I’ve not been able to repeat the internet marketing gurus that tell you that you can put up a page one day and be making gobs of money the next. It’s not happening that way for me. It’s more of a steady growth.”

Take a tour of New England - Can Cliff’s travel website be an idea starter for you and your hometown and region?

Travel Websites - Toronto From her home in Austria, Susanne Pacher traveled through more than fifteen countries before her 20th birthday, In 1986 she able to get a work permit as a translator In Toronto, Canada – my birth place.

Appreciating the fact that “TO” was one of the most peaceful, multi-cultural places in the world, she decided to stay and continue her education while exploring various travel opportunities.

Susanne has been thinking about creating a travel website for about three years and experimented with several concepts until settling on her present site which is a portal covering many different, and sometimes unconventional types of travel.

Even though she had “fairly decent theoretical understanding of e-commerce,” Susanne relied on Dr. Ken Evoy’s SBI from the very beginning.

Take an internet ride to Toronto and Susanne’s Travel and Transitions.

How does Susanne rate travel websites? In her own words;

Creating this travel website has been the single most interesting, challenging and rewarding think I have ever done in my life. My site allows me to creative and to wear many different hats: entrepreneur, writer, reporter, travel journalist, detective, traveler, photographer, adventurer, motivator, philosopher and many others.”

Alan and Jean LeStourgeon, of Palm Bay, Florida, were surfing the net looking for opportunities that would give them additional sources of income, when they discovered SBI, and their story is a prefect example of how build a home based business by following the Site Built It roadmap.

Alan, was a graphic artist for a major publishing company and worked with computers for years, however, he admits he knew little to nothing about internet marketing. All that changed after he and Jean studied the various SBI manuals.

Travel websites - mountain cabin Following the SBI roadmap, they first researched for topics ideas based on the life experiences they enjoyed and that others might want to know about and benefit from. Topping the list was their holiday adventures that started with their honeymoon cabin at Pigeon Forge Tennessee - renting vacation cabins in the great outdoors in various picturesque locations.

Alan and Jean now have four SBI websites.

I asked Alan if he had any advise for those looking into travel websites for a creative retirment job.

”I would like to tell anyone who is considering building a business on the net, to just stick with it. It’s not easy and it doesn’t happen quickly, but just keep doing what you love and eventually you’ll start getting regular visitors to your site.”

Here is a perfect example of preparing “creatively” for retirement by developing travel websites based on special interests.

Joyce Jackson is a self-employed architect approaching her retirement years. During her thirty year business career she has traveled the globe and learned a great deal about the travel pendulum swings of frustration to inspiration – in other words Joyce has a mountain of valuable information to pass on to fellow travelers. “I can get people ready to get out the door and just concentrate on relaxing and having fun.”

Joyce is working to make her site THE fun-travel information source. As for her long range objective – “to get this thing flying and exit my current profession.”
