Of the scores of interviews I've conducted over the past year as part of my retirement jobs research a couple of issues stand out.- In the beginning many were suckered into participating in what can best be described as get-rich-quick cons
- the majority did not appreciate the hard work, dedication and time it takes to be successful.
One of my favorite authors, humorist Dave Barry, has a new book that's a parody of all the self-help books that fill an entire section in most book stores. Dave Barry's Money Secrets humorously rips into financial advice books many of which hook the gullible like a grizzly bear snags a salmon in a British Columbia river. He describes his book as being loaded with - "sure-fire, can't-miss, no-nonsense, common-sense, easy-to-apply, on-the-money, hyphenated phrases" -just like the get-rich-quick copy that will jam your Email in-box if you open the door.
In your search for a creative retirement challenge on the internet, it will not take you long to learn that the web, like the real world, has an ever increasing population of hucksters and con artists. Just today, this item sneaked into my bulk mail box - " "Don't Miss out on the tons of cash to be made on the interest - Make $35,000 a month or even more and work less than an hour a week." down at the bottom of a long hype-page, in very small print - " Earnings Disclaimers" and that page is almost as long as the pitch-page. To give you just one example of how important it is to keep a sharp eye out for these sharks lurking in the waters of the web, check the story on this page of my website
My site is a personal journal of how I was able to create a creative retirement job that truly gave me a reason to jump up running every morning and have the revenue act as a barometer of how my work is progressing. However, right from the get-go I realized that any worthy creative retirement assignment takes time, study, patience and effort - but that's the heart of the overall strategy - to make your life more interesting the longer it lasts.
When I was searching for a creative outlet I admit to being computer clueless and internet ignorant and I was downright lucky to be directed to Site Build It and yes, that's an endorsement - big time. Simply put, they took care of the techie stuff, guided me through all the steps to find my place on the web and watch over me like a mother hen for as long as we're a family and a family we are - I've lost track of the number of times I've gone to the SBI forum to get help from other SBI'ers.
One other important point to my endorsement - there's a 100% money back guarantee - that's not shark bait.
