My retirement jobs journal is a Readers Digest version of how I was able to bridge the valley between a fulfilling working life and retirement.
My name is Dave Wright and as noted in the CTV-Atlantic entry in the Wikipedia online encyclopedia (Opens new window) - I was one of the lucky ones.
As a Canadian broadcaster, I eagerly looked forward to going to work every day of my fourty-four year career - Mondays held no fear for me.
Surrounded by a loving and supportive family, anchored for the past 55 years by my wife and best friend Audrey,(see family picture below)my working years were chock-full of creative challenges that were powerful energizers keeping me young in mind and spirit and feeling truly alive.
It was a fantastic ride.
Then came retirement and it didn’t take long to realize that I had not properly prepared creatively for this “second life.”
All this extra time to do whatever I wanted but I didn't have any kind of a road map to show me the way.
With no hobbies to carry me through, I found out you can’t mentally survive if additional golf and poker games with the boys are your only creative challenges.
A door had slammed shut and I was on the outside looking in. Soon I was wallowing in a world of negativity and self-doubt – what Winston Churchill called, “the black dog of depression.” I became a very sad and miserable individual.
Finally, after seeking medical help and with steady and understanding encouragement from Audrey and the kids, I clawed my way out of the black hole of despondency by tackling the problem as I would any newsroom assignment - start with research. My retirement jobs journal notes that I was able to get myself back on track by developing a positive thinking saturation campaign that allowed me to reboot what I call my “B” computer. (B for brain.)
It’s not easy battling the negativity virus when it takes over your B computer. There’s no snap-your-finger magic to the process but you can do it if you plan properly and stay with the battle plan.
In the third year of my rehabilitation investigation I was directed by one of my contacts to Ebay. Now here’s a winner to work on before and during retirement. However, to be successful on Ebay you have to take the time to study and learn, something that thousands on Ebayers fail to do and that's why they fall well short of their profit potential.
Another reason I added Ebay as a Retirement job possibility is it can be a perfect fit for you and your partner to work together on an interesting, productive and profitable project. (Another important consideration for retirement as you will be together 24/7.)
It was a fellow Ebayer from England that pointed me toward my, and hopefully your retirement Mount Olympus.
He was helping me identify and date an unusual piece of silver and he was a human library of information. I told him he should write a book on the subject. He said he was working on another angle.
He planned to offer his knowledge on the internet.
Not knowing the first thing about the internet, web site design, traffic building and the many other techie tid-bits necessary to be successful in such a venture, he was told about a new service developed by a Canadian Doctor.
The thought of a Canadian Doctor designing software so some guy in England can sell his knowledge on the internet set off the old reporter rumble-in-the-gut feeling that there was a story to be told here, so I made a note to check it out.
The Doctor’s name is Ken Evoy. Born in Montreal – holds degrees in science and medicine - taught medical students and practiced emergency medicine at McGill University in Montreal – as a hobby he came up with several inventions that made him a bundle which allowed him to pursue another interest - Ecommerce.
Soon he earned a world wide reputation for his inventive and informative Ecommerce courses which have empowered hundred-of-thousands of people and small business to succeed on the web.
He’s also the brains behind Site Build It,
a truly amazing operation that is now outperforming the likes of Yahoo web hosting pro and Microsoft’s bCentral professional services.
As I noted in my retirement jobs journal, the amazing part of this Canadian Doctors story is that while Site Build It is proving to be the “David” to the majors “Goliath”, it’s not only for professional webmasters.
When I first checked it out for a story, I found that the majority of Site Build It users were ordinary folks like my friend in England, who were definitely not net-marketing savvy. Like me, they didn't have a clue about how to create a positive, productive and profitable home business retirement on the internet.<
Take a minute (2 1/2 actually) to hear from Dr. Evoy via video -
Dr. Evoy gives you a road map - perfect for the likes of me – just follow the script step by step and let them handle all the technical stuff.
It’s great being back in action – creating, communicating and exchanging ideas with folks around the world. It annoys me at times to think – “If I only knew then what I know now.” I could have had a seamless transfer from my work life to my retirement life – not to mention the extra revenue.
But that kind of thinking is a waste of time. Yesterday is history - tomorrow a maybe - today is now - that's why it's called the present.

I started my broadcasting career in Barrie back in 1950 and returned to rejoin the family when I retired.
