However, the first entry must begin with my own story.

Positive thinking was something I was not prepared to discuss when I first retired.

As noted on My Retirement Journal page, being hounded by what Winston Churchill called, “the black dog” was due mainly, I believe, to my constant worry of what lay ahead because of my poor planning for a creatively active retirement.

I suddenly found myself without any creative challenges and too much time to think – and the majority of these thoughts were overwhelmingly negative.

For days and weeks I sank deeper in the swamp of sadness, hopelessness, worthlessness and anxiety. Getting out of bed each day was an extremely difficult task.

The prescriptions and medical advice helped but the clincher was the support of my wife and family. They provided the lifeline that allowed me the reclaim my former self. Their understanding support was vital and their continuous encouragement gave me the power to finally take responsibility for my recovery.

However, I believe that any responsible chapter dealing with positive thinking stories must first forward the following: NUMBER ONE RULE

Depression is an illness that can be cured.

You can learn more about symptoms of depression at this info site. If you are suffering from depression don’t waste time – seek professional medical help.

The following positive thinking stories are a personal journey of recovery AFTER the prescriptions and professional medical advice.

My story opens with my family urging me to approach my recovery as I would any news story - I decided to treat it as if I was covering a war, which I was – at war with myself.

Obviously, there is no such thing as an easy war, but in the annals of armed conflict, the Gulf wars were about as easy as it gets because the allies waited until they had everything ready to win.

Even though Washington was urging Generals Schwarzkopf and Franks to get going, the two commanders refused to push the “go” button until they were sure they had enough weapons, troops and intelligence about the enemy to ensure victory

Now I was the general and I had to marshal all the forces available to me so I could ensure victory.

"One important key to success is self-confidence.
An important key to self- confidence is preparation."
- Arthur Ashe

First, before I could even think of developing a positive thinking campaign, I needed intelligence, so I spent weeks researching with authorities via interviews and the internet. This research continues to this day. Much of the information I gathered was free - a few commercial, but soon I had volumes of positive thinking intelligence from which I formed a mental battle plan.

Only, when I had a plan of how to proceed and all my weapons were available did I make my move. Remember that this battle plan is made up of several parts - and you must have each section ready so that all your motivational forces move out as one.

Positive Thinking - Extras

TAKE A SHORT BREAK - and view this short free video. Submitted by Dan in Florida, it was produced by a fellow Canadian as a public service and its message serves as the perfect lead-in to the positive thinking stories that follow - The Time Movie.

Sir Anthony Hopkins Academy Award winner Sir Anthony Hopkins changed his life from booze to beauty through self-awareness and introspection. In an interview in Parade magazine he noted:

“I’m intrigued with the idea of the ability of people to transform themselves and find the courage to make decisions that reshape their future. So I remain a self-help book fan. They’re like wake-up calls, telling you ‘come on, get on with your life.”

I totally agree – every responsible positive thinking story will add another dimension to powering up your new positive attitude.

The following E-book of is vital to your arsenal of “anti-negative” weapons because it's downloadable and therefore on your home or office computer so you can read a page every day. “Self Improvement – The Top 101 Experts That Help us Improve Our Lives” What caught my eye about this package was the fact it's recommended by not just one but several top motivational Gurus such as TV’s Dr. Phil, Jack Canfield, the co-author of the best selling series Chicken Soup for the Soul and also one of my favourites, Brian Tracy, Author of Maximum Achievement.

As noted, The Top 101 Experts is downloadable and offers a number of bonus features such as the “Today is Your Day to Win” E-course, the “Goal Setting 101 E-book and a library of motivational material – “The Top 501 Motivational Quotes of All Time”. These are valuable weapons for your positive thinking arsenal - there are other additions in this package but, although interesting, didn’t fit in my battle plan - however, they could very well be useful to you.

Positive Thinking through Visualization

One more interesting Ebook that was a positive idea starter for me. After reading it - twice - it was from these pages that I developed the Positive Thinking Through Visualization Program that I detail in chapter two.
