I first thought of recipes as a Retirement job idea while attending an estate auction.
During the auction preview, I inspected a box of odds and ends and discovered a small wooden box covered by dish towels and various used kitchen utensils. Opening the lid, I found a pile of hand written recipes on yellowing paper - each recipe was dated along with the source. Apparently this was a collection of family hand-me-down cooking tips, some going as far back as the early 1800. This collection is now on my “to-do” list as a possible Victorian cooking E-book or website.
First, before we get to other examples of recipes as a retirement job, allow me to introduce you to one of my home based businesses – republishing “Public Domain” material –

Here’s one of my favorites I’ve uncovered that fits right in with this recipes chapter.
Chocolate, Cocoa and Home Made Candy Recipes.
Two bangs for the buck on this cooking recipes page – discover new recipes and hear how ordinary folks have joined the creative retirement economy via the internet by building recipe websites.
The objective for Laura Warnke was to use the internet to build a home business that would create enough income for her to stay at home with her son – the initial research took nearly three months. The first chapter in Laura Warnke’s success story parallels mine in that we both started our Ecommerce experience with eBay – Laura by setting up an eBay store while I built an auction site – and we both soon realized that we needed an official web presence – more research - ” I had heard of internet marketing, Google Adsense, and PPC, but did not know how to use them nor had any experience in them. Anything I wanted or needed to learn about, I read about until I figured it out.” That research led Laura to Site Build It. Laura, who knows how to use and maintain a computer but admits to knowing little about website construction, keyword and search engine optimization and all the other techie stuff, enthusiastically endorses Site Build It.not only for it’s easy to follow step-by-step roadmap but all the “no charge” extras like the invaluable forums – “The forums are so positive and if you have a question on anything related to your site, the answer is there!” In less than a year, Laura has built two websites - all-about-deserts.com and breakfast-and-brunch-recipes.com and a third site is in the development stage. ”I really like the fact that my website makes sales while I sleep. It is a pretty good feeling to wake up and have made a sale or people have clicked on your advertisements, making you money while you sleep”
Could a cooking recipe website do the same for you?
Welcome to the world of the creative retirement economy.
During my research of recipes as a retirement job, I came across this perfect example of what it’s all about.
Debbie Beaston of Garland, Texas has what she proudly considers the number one top secret BBQ sauce in Texas. What impressed me was that Debbie is so proud of her product, she lists all her contact numbers – no hiding behind some mail drop for her. Also she has marketed her recipe with a host of extra recipes to make the package a great value for her small fee – including side dishes with such intriquing names as - - Granny’s heart stoppin’ artery cloggin’ tatters.
- Rustic roasted BBQ potatoes.
- Bear’s cornbread.
- Carolina’s cole slaw.
- Big Bob’s better beans
- Fire cracker corn-on-the-cob.
Debbie’s downloadable recipe E-book and extras could be a blueprint for your recipe home based business.
A “chuckle” Time Out; While on the subject of BBQ’s, this reality check was submitted by Elma, of Halifax, Nova Scotia – a womans’ view of her “day off” when her husband decides to host a BBQ party.
Here’s another Ebook idea starter that takes the cooking recipes topic one step further. This retirement job was created by Patrick Chong who was born and raised on the beautiful tropical Polynesian island of Tahiti. Not only does Patrick offer up original Polynesian recipes but also everything you need to know about – "How to Organize a Complete Tropical Island Theme Party." with an AUTHENTIC Polynesian Feast and Ambience with recipes, desserts, drinks and decorating ideas. Again, take note of how Patrick markets his product by offering free bonuses such as recipes for: “his island’s desert and cocktail drinks.” Plus templates to help produce Polynesian decorations. Could you produce an Ebook or video about your ethnic celebrations? If so, start studying to learn how to
sell your knowledge
Next, from the publishing of cooking recipes Ebooks as a retirement job idea to maintaining a website for your Ecommerce project, we move across the pond to England to visit with Elizabeth Alderson. Liz’s informative site offers volumes of seafood recipes and her story also illustrates the importance of creating your home based business on a subject you know well and are passionate about. Liz and her parents established a wet fish retail business back in 1984 and later, a fish delivery business now operated by her stepson. It was during this time that many of her customers complained about their lack of knowledge on how to properly cook seafood and Liz responded by printing a series of seafood cooking recipes and photocopying them for customer handouts. With a teenage son at home, (he needs me more now than he did when he was 5) Liz needed to be home more and the internet provided that opportunity. Like many of us, Liz wasn’t a computer super-user but could handle the word processor well enough and the rest is the typical

” SBI is brilliant in that it is so straightforward just copy and paste is all that's required - if you can work a word processor, you can 'work' SBI.
Nearly 2 years ago I found SBI - must have followed a link somewhere. Thought it was too expensive - ha ha - I wasted a LOT more money over the next year until I came back to SBI.”
Visit Liz and find a seafood recipe.
