Retirement Quotes - inspirational quotes to help you build a positive retirement.

Retirement Quotes Retirement Quotes

This retirement Quotes chapter is not centered on the usual fun quotes, such as -

  • When a man retires, his wife gets twice the husband but only half the income. - Chi Chi Rodriguez

Because of Personal experiences in dealing with retirement, the quotes that follow are a collection of motivators I use to help remind me that each day is a gift.

Retirement Quotes - Sagan I started using my retirement quotes a few years ago after reading an interview with the late Cornell University astronomer, Carl Sagan.

He was talking about his amazing battle with a grave illness, saying that he had to be reminded daily of how precious life is and how to never take it for granted like he had in the past. He wrote:

“Near my shaving mirror, so I can see it every morning, is a framed postcard. On the back is penciled message to a Mr. James Day in Swansea Valley, Wales. It reads:

    Dear friend,
Just a line to show that I am alive and kicking and going grand.
    It’s a treat.
    Yours,
    WJR

It’s signed with the almost-indecipherable initials of one William John Rogers. On the front is a color photo of a sleek, four-funnelled steamer captioned WHITE STAR LINER TITANIC.

The postmark was imprinted the day before the great ship went down, losing more than 1,500 lives, including Mr. Rogers.”

Carl Sagan displayed the postcard for a reason. He knew that “going grand” can be the most temporary and illusory state.

Think about it – Carl Sagan was a man who had life by the tail - apparently in good health, his children thriving, books on the best seller lists, much sought after lecturer, engaged in ground-breaking scientific research and was embarking on new television and movie projects.

Then he goes to the doctor to have a black and blue mark on his arm looked at, and he’s told he had a disease he never heard of, and if he did nothing, he would be dead in six months. (A bone-marrow transplant operation gave him two extra years)

    Here's one of my key quotes;

    How do I change?
If I feel depressed I will sing.
If I feel sad I will laugh.
If I feel ill I will double my labour.
If I feel fear I will plunge ahead.
If I feel inferior I will wear new garments.
If I feel uncertain I will raise my voice.
If I feel poverty I will think of wealth to come.
If I feel incompetent I will think of past success.
If I feel insignificant I will remember my goals.
Today I will be the master of my emotions.
    Og Mandino

That’s the retirement quote I scotch-taped to the bathroom mirror I use to shave each morning. It’s my personal pledge of allegiance.

During my research I found retirement quotes to be invaluable. Many people admitted to starting off with enthusiasm and determination when they first decided to change their thought process. However, without the retirement quotes serving as constant reminders, their enthusiasm for the challenge soon diminished and they gave up.

You must constantly aware of the fact that you are breaking a life long habit of negative thinking.

You must keep focused until you’re in complete control of your life. Therefore I have included a number of retirement quotes to be posted in conspicuous places such as; the TV set, bedroom and bathroom mirrors, kitchen cabinets, the dashboard of your car etc.

Don’t start your self-help attack until you have all the print, verbal and visual motivators for your home, office and car ready go all at the same time.

That’s important - research indicates people must be continually motivated, particularly during the start period of any major undertaking. In many cases, purpose and perseverance begin to fade when first faced with a long series of hurdles that must be cleared before reaching the victory line.

This is when the support of your allies can be vital. However, you must continually keep your own motivational weapons armed and firing.

There is the danger that, once posted, you’ll become accustomed to their presence and ignore them. That mistake could cost you the victory you so desperately want and need – keep changing the retirement quotes and their positions.

To get you started, print and cut out the the list of retirement quotes on the next page. Print them and and post them all over the place, particularly in areas that you use first thing in the morning – bedroom and bathroom mirrors, Kitchen frig, inside dresser draws etc.

I call them my Retirement Quotes but they are in fact - Positive Thinking Quotations - post them - they're an important weapon in your positive thinking arsenal - unleash the power.
